Asperger Syndrome Presentation  - Sunday, March 20, 2005 at WMLC, Inc.  

Speaker:  Dr. Elizabeth Reeve, Child Psychiatry, Behavioral Health , Regions Hospital
Presentation :  1:00-5:00 p.m.  (Diagnosis, Treatment Options, Medication, Supports available for parents, Behavior—Crisis and Emergency Options, and, if time, prognosis)

Pot Luck Dinner:  5:00 – 6:00 pm.

Child care provided by Dr. Reeve’s Residents in Training

Suggested Contribution towards costs and an honorarium for Dr. Reeve is $20 per family or professional attendee.

Sleepover Saturday, March 19, 2005

5:30 p.m. – 10:00 a.m.  We will go out to Dinner at Culver’s, play Yu-gi-oh, and watch a movie.  For breakfast we will have pancakes, bacon, and orange juice.  Please bring your pillow, sleeping bag, money for dinner, and your favorite game.  $150.00

Spring Session Begins April 4, 2005

We will be holding intake conferences and registering clients through March 24.  If you plan to enroll, please contact us as soon as possible.

East Metro Social Club

The East Metro Social Club is a group which is held East of Minnetonka in order to be more accessible to clients that live in the East Metro area.

When:  Thursday Evenings from 5:00-7:30.

Where:  Each week participants should be dropped off and picked up at the Burnsville Library.  They  will participate in various scheduled recreational activities in the community.

Who:  Ages 12+                                  

Price:  $125* per time plus admission & spending money /*$115 per time with eight week commitment

Parent Support Group

If there is interest, we would like to start the group again. Biz Williams, currently serving as the Director of Recreation Activities at West Metro, has a Bachelors of Social Work and has been trained to facilitate groups. The next parent support group meeting is scheduled for April 13th at 6:30. Please email Biz at bwilliams@wmlearningconnections.com  if you are interested in attending.

Sibling Support Group – Coming Soon  

This group will be facilitated by Biz Williams who is currently serving as Director of Recreation Activities. Biz has a Bachelors of Social Work and has experience facilitating groups.  Please email Biz at bwilliams@wmlearningconnections.com if you would like future updates.

Metro Friendship Foundation  

Articles of Incorporation have been received for Metro Friendship Foundation which will provide support to clients of WMLC, Inc.  Please watch for further details.

Steps of Hope Walk

WMLC, Inc. Clients and Staff participated in the Autism Society of Minnesota’s annual Steps of Hope Walk which raised over $52,000 to benefit children or adults with ASD who live in Minnesota.

Other Activities

Debra Schipper has been busy spreading the word about WMLC and social skill groups.  She presented a SkillShop at the Autism Society titled “Teaching Social Skills” on  February 9.  As a result of that presentation, she had requests to also make presentations at Capernaum Pediatric Therapy, Inc. which she did at their Edina and Crystal locations.
